The sun has started to shine in New Plymouth lately so summer reading is already on my mind. Yes, I know we're a whole couple months away from summer but maybe I just mean sunny-day-lying-in-the-hammock (or on the beach, or in a park!) reading.
I am probably in the minority of people still enjoy visiting the library and reading a real, paper book. Sure, it might not be an environmentally friendly as reading on an e-reader but I get enough screen time in my life! Also, I don't have to worry about keeping yet another thing charged up.
So, I wanted to share a few books that I thoroughly enjoyed! They tend towards business topics but often in a broader sense with other themes through them. Here are three you might want to read the next time the sun calls you out into the lounger in the backyard.
- #Girlboss by Sophie Amoruso - an inspiring tale of how Sophie started her retail empire. Her story shows that training and talking don't come close to just getting out there and doing when you're trying to get a business going.
- Start with Why by Simon Sinek - this book dives into how the brain works and why knowing why can be great inspiration to yourself and those around you. A great book to fuel some thoughts on why you do the things you do (in a business or personal sense.)
- Reinventing Organizations by Frederic Laloux - examining the evolution and structure of organizations, this book compares different structures to stages of consciousness and makes the case that it's time for organizations to develop into a higher stage. Fascinating case studies of companies that run without hierarchy, budgeting or targets... and they are all super successful too.
Take some time out to check out these books. Share what you thought of them below or give me your recommendations for my sunny reading days ahead! If you are an avid reader, join me on Goodreads.
